Bayonne PD: Loaded Handgun, Ecstasy Seized From Staten Island Man In Routine Traffic Stop

A Staten Island man was found with a fully-loaded handgun as well as ecstasy, other drugs and bogus bank cards during a Monday night traffic stop in Bayonne, police said.

Steven Polanco, 26, was stopped for a violation near Andrew Street and JFK Boulevard shortly before 10 p.m., Bayonne Police Capt. Eric Amato said.

Officers approached Polanco’s Chevy Cobalt and “immediately” identified a strong odor of marijuana, police said.

A subsequent search of Polanco’s car turned up a fully-loaded .22 caliber revolver handgun, more than a pound of marijuana, an ecstasy pill, 17 prescription pills as well as a pocket scale and other paraphernalia, Amato said.

Polanco also had two NYS driver’s licenses with two different names, three debit cards with two different names, several Visa and MasterCard gift cards and seven cellphones, Amato said.

Polanco was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun for an unlawful purpose, certain persons not to possess weapons, possession of fraudulent government documents, possession with intent to distribute CDS as well as other drug possession charges.
